About the bookshop

This Russian-language bookshop was created with a desire to preserve and share Russian language, traditions and culture with the Russian-speaking community in New Zealand, particularly younger generations growing up far from their cultural roots. The shop offers a carefully selected collection of books that provide a connection to Russian culture, storytelling and literary traditions. Its range includes Russian folklore, fairy tales, riddles, rhymes and tongue twisters, alongside works by celebrated authors such as Pushkin, Bunin, Kuprin and Chekhov. There is also a wonderful selection of books many Russian-speaking adults will remember from their own childhoods. With publishers bringing much-loved titles back into print, readers have the opportunity to rediscover familiar stories and illustrations - and perhaps introduce those same books to their own children. Alongside traditional favourites and literary classics, the collection includes contemporary works by Russian and international authors, as well as books featuring popular characters for younger readers. Considerable care goes into selecting the books available, with attention given not only to the authors and stories but also to the illustrators who help bring them to life. The collection features work by renowned illustrators including V.G. Suteev, Y.A. Vasnetsov, L.V. Vladimirsky, E.M. Rachev, A.M. Kanevsky and V.A. Chizhikov. From treasured childhood stories to contemporary reads, the bookshop offers something for both children and adults, while helping Russian language, literature and culture continue to be discovered and enjoyed in New Zealand.
