Welcome to Between the Covers (“BTC”, “we”, “us” or “our”). By accessing or using the Between the Covers website, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. Between the Covers is an independent guide to book-related events, authors, books, bookshops and little libraries across Aotearoa New Zealand. We aim to provide useful and accurate information, but event details can change and we cannot guarantee that all information will always be complete, current or error-free.
Event and other information
Information published on Between the Covers may be provided by event organisers, authors, publishers, bookshops, libraries, users and other third parties, or gathered from publicly available sources. We may edit, summarise or format information to make it suitable for the website and to maintain consistency across listings. Event organisers and other contributors are responsible for ensuring that information they provide to us is accurate and up to date. We recommend checking the event organiser’s website or ticketing page for the latest information before attending an event. Between the Covers does not organise, manage or guarantee the events listed on the website unless expressly stated otherwise.
Images, photographs, logos and other content
We respect the intellectual property rights of photographers, authors, publishers, artists, event organisers, bookshops and other content creators. If you submit, upload or provide an image, photograph, logo or other material to Between the Covers, you confirm that:
- you own the copyright in the material, or have permission from the copyright owner to provide it to us;
- you have obtained any necessary permissions or consents for its use;
- its use by Between the Covers will not infringe another person’s copyright, privacy, moral rights or other legal rights; and
- you have the authority to grant Between the Covers permission to use the material as described below.
By submitting material to Between the Covers, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to reproduce, display, resize, crop, format and publish that material on the Between the Covers website and in our related promotional channels for the purpose of operating, promoting and publicising Between the Covers and the relevant event, author, bookshop, book or other listing. Where appropriate, we may credit the photographer, copyright owner or source. Providing credit does not replace the requirement to obtain permission where permission is required. Please do not submit photographs, artwork, logos or other material copied from another website, social media account or publication unless you have the necessary rights or permission to do so.
Images sourced by Between the Covers
Where Between the Covers obtains an image from a third party, we will endeavour to establish that we have the appropriate permission or licence to use it. If you believe that an image or other material appearing on Between the Covers infringes your copyright or other rights, please contact us at info@betweenthecovers.co.nz with details of the material and your concerns. We will review legitimate requests and, where appropriate, remove or replace the material while the matter is investigated.
Copyright and intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, the content created by Between the Covers, including original text, website design, graphics and other original material, belongs to Between the Covers or is used with permission. You must not reproduce, copy, modify, distribute or commercially exploit our original website content without our prior written permission. Copyright in material supplied by third parties remains with the relevant copyright owner.
Third-party websites and ticketing services
Between the Covers may provide links to external websites, including event organisers, authors, publishers, bookshops, libraries and ticketing services such as Eventbrite and Humanitix. These websites are operated independently of Between the Covers. We are not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, privacy practices, terms or transactions. A link to a third-party website does not necessarily mean that Between the Covers endorses or is affiliated with that organisation or service. Where ticket or event information is provided on Between the Covers, users should check the organiser’s or ticket provider’s website for the most current information before making arrangements or purchasing tickets.
Accuracy of information
We make reasonable efforts to provide useful and accurate information, but we cannot guarantee that all event dates, times, locations, prices, availability, author information, book information, opening hours or other details are accurate or current. If you notice an error, please contact us so that we can investigate and, where appropriate, correct the information.
Changes and removal of content
Between the Covers reserves the right to edit, update, suspend or remove any listing, image, account or other content on the website at any time. We may remove or amend content where we believe it is inaccurate, outdated, inappropriate, misleading, infringing or otherwise unsuitable for the website. Event organisers, authors, bookshops, publishers, photographers, copyright owners and other relevant parties may contact us to request a correction or removal of content relating to them.
User submissions
Where the website allows users to submit events, comments, information, images or other content, you are responsible for ensuring that anything you submit is lawful, accurate and does not infringe another person's rights. You must not submit material that is misleading, defamatory, unlawful, abusive, offensive or that infringes copyright, privacy or other intellectual property rights. We reserve the right to review, edit or remove user-submitted content.
Paid listings and promotional services
Between the Covers may offer paid promotional opportunities to authors, publishers, event organisers, bookshops and other businesses. Payment for a promotional listing does not guarantee attendance, ticket sales, book sales, website traffic, media coverage or any particular result. We reserve the right to decline or remove promotional content that does not meet our website standards or these Terms and Conditions.
Website availability
We aim to keep Between the Covers available and functioning properly, but we do not guarantee that the website will always be available, uninterrupted or free from errors or technical issues. We may change, suspend or discontinue parts of the website or its features without notice.
Limitation of responsibility
To the extent permitted by New Zealand law, Between the Covers is not responsible for losses arising from reliance on information published on the website, changes or cancellations to events, third-party websites, ticket purchases, or actions taken by event organisers, authors, publishers, bookshops or other third parties. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or limits any rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under New Zealand law.
Privacy
Our collection and handling of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. The current version will be published on the Between the Covers website.
