Steadfast Books

Steadfast Books is a distinctive Christchurch second-hand bookshop offering a curated collection of quality pre-loved fiction and non-fiction books. With around 80% of its stock dedicated to non-fiction, the shop has a particular focus on making knowledge accessible to dreamers, seekers, collectors, scholars and the next generation of readers. The remaining collection includes classic and modern fiction, as well as graphic novels and books that explore storytelling through film and visual media. The shop also offers selected new books sourced directly from overseas publishers at competitive prices. More than just a traditional second-hand bookstore, Steadfast Books aims to create a welcoming space where knowledge can be found, shared and discussed. Its mission is “Creating Equal Opportunities, One Book At A Time”, with an ambitious vision to create a modern, second-hand version of the Library of Alexandria. This vision includes a book museum featuring out-of-print and rare works accessible to scholars and students, alongside study areas, book nooks and a dedicated section celebrating local authors. Steadfast Books has featured in The Press, Cityscape, Seven Sharp, Metropol and Stuff, and has built a following through social media. At its heart, it remains an old-fashioned bookshop with a big vision for the role that books, knowledge and community can play in Christchurch.
