About this event

Take your writing to the next level with personalised mentoring from an established New Zealand author. Designed for aspiring novelists, short story writers and memoirists, this comprehensive online course from The Creative Hub offers expert one-on-one guidance to help transform your ideas into a polished, full-length manuscript. Whether you're working on your first novel, developing a collection of short stories or bringing your life experiences to the page, you'll be supported by one of three accomplished Kiwi authors: Rose Carlyle, Zoe Meager or Lynn Davidson. Unlike a traditional classroom course, this flexible online programme provides sustained individual mentoring through scheduled Zoom meetings and email feedback. Your tutor will work closely with you to develop your manuscript, offering thoughtful, constructive critiques while helping you recognise your strengths, overcome challenges and grow in confidence as a writer. Throughout the course, you'll explore the essential elements of compelling storytelling, including character development, dialogue, plot, structure, point of view, description, voice and theme. You'll also maintain a reading and writing journal to reflect on your progress and deepen your understanding of the craft. Writing can sometimes feel like a solitary pursuit, but regular mentoring provides encouragement, accountability and fresh perspectives. Your tutor will help you identify opportunities to strengthen your manuscript, refine your creative vision and develop the skills needed to produce work of a professional literary standard. Meet Your Tutors Rose Carlyle – A bestselling novelist, lawyer and adventurer with first-class honours degrees in law and creative writing. Her debut thriller, The Girl in the Mirror, became a number-one bestseller in New Zealand, and her novels have been translated into eight languages. Lynn Davidson – An accomplished author of fiction, poetry and memoir, with several highly regarded publications and a PhD in creative writing. Zoe Meager – An internationally published short story writer and winner of the 2013 Commonwealth Short Story Prize (Pacific Region) and the 2025 Bristol Short Story Prize. Her work has appeared in publications including Granta, Landfall and Overland, and she is Fiction Editor at takahē magazine. All three authors have extensive teaching experience and have served as senior tutors at The Creative Hub for several years. A Pathway Towards Publication At the conclusion of the course, you'll receive a detailed assessment of your manuscript in the form of a professional publisher's reader's report, highlighting its strengths and identifying areas for further development. Successful participants are awarded the Higher Certificate in Writing from The Creative Hub. The Creative Hub has an impressive record of supporting emerging writers, with 30 graduates publishing novels or winning national and international writing awards over the past three years.
