About this event

British comedian, author and former doctor Adam Kay returns to New Zealand with his festive live show, ’Twas the Nightshift Before Christmas. Best known for his bestselling memoir This Is Going to Hurt, Kay brings together hilarious and often outrageous stories from his time working in the NHS, drawing on entries from his bestselling Christmas diaries alongside brand-new stand-up material and Christmas songs. The show is a festive tribute to the doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers who keep hospitals running while everyone else is celebrating -dealing with everything from babies and baubles to chocolate wrappers, remote controls and fairy lights that have somehow ended up where they really shouldn't. Expect a gloriously funny, occasionally disgusting and surprisingly touching pre-Christmas night out, packed with the kind of medical mishaps that make for great stories once they're safely over. As The Guardian puts it, Kay delivers “funny, disgusting and moving tales with a festive twist”, while the Daily Express describes the show as “a sleigh-load of ho-ho-horror stories for long-suffering healthcare staff.”
