About this event
Join acclaimed New Zealand author Lloyd Jones for an evening discussing his new book, The Beaded Curtain. Part memoir, part autobiography and part quest, The Beaded Curtain is a deeply personal exploration of memory, experience and the writer’s role as a witness to the world. Jones moves between his Lower Hutt childhood, youthful travels across the United States and later experiences in places including Hiroshima, Berlin, the Wairarapa and Waiheke Island. Along the way, he reflects on family, poets, conscientious objectors and those who have chosen to challenge convention. Lloyd Jones is one of Aotearoa’s most celebrated writers and the author of twelve novels. His internationally acclaimed novel Mister Pip was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. He is also a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement and an Arts Foundation Laureate. Come along to hear Lloyd talk about the experiences and ideas behind The Beaded Curtain, and the memories and encounters that have shaped both the book and his life as a writer. RSVP Email books@timeout.co.nz to reserve your place.
