- About this event
Join New Zealand No. 1 bestselling author Olivia Spooner for an engaging evening exploring her captivating historical novel Songbirds of Florence, inspired by the remarkable true stories of New Zealand women serving during the Second World War. The novel draws inspiration from the experiences of women in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps, following two fictional characters, Addy and Margot, who join the Tuis in Egypt before travelling to Italy, where they help provide comfort and entertainment for soldiers. Set against the backdrop of wartime Europe, the story explores friendship, courage, sacrifice and resilience. Olivia Spooner is an accomplished New Zealand author and former independent bookshop owner who holds a Master of Creative Writing from Auckland University of Technology. Her other bestselling historical novels include The Girl from London and The American Boys. Her writing is known for bringing lesser-known historical experiences to life through compelling characters and carefully researched storytelling.
