- About this event
Discover the fascinating world of New Zealand's butterflies and moths as bestselling author Liv Sisson celebrates the release of her latest book, Butterflies and Moths of Aotearoa. Following the success of Fungi of Aotearoa, Liv turns her attention to another extraordinary yet often overlooked part of New Zealand's natural world. From colourful coppers and blues to delicate loopers, twirlers and brushfoot butterflies, her beautifully illustrated field guide reveals the remarkable diversity of these intriguing creatures. New Zealand is home to an astonishing variety of moths and butterflies, including familiar monarchs, ancient gold-flecked moths whose lineage stretches back to the age of dinosaurs, butterflies that appear to shift between purple and orange, and a striking lime-green moth associated with messages from the spirit world. Through fascinating facts, scientific insights and engaging storytelling, Liv explores where these creatures live, how they arrived in Aotearoa, their unique behaviours and the important roles they play in our ecosystems. Featuring hundreds of full-colour photographs, detailed diagrams, identification tips and practical advice on attracting and protecting butterflies and moths, the book encourages readers to look more closely at the natural wonders hiding in gardens, parks and native habitats. This event celebrates the launch of a captivating new guide that will appeal to nature lovers, gardeners, wildlife enthusiasts and anyone curious about Aotearoa's remarkable biodiversity. Join Liv Sisson to discover the inspiration behind her latest book and celebrate the beauty and diversity of New Zealand's butterflies and moths.
