- About this event
Join award-winning children's author Elaine Bickell at Unity Books Wellington on Sunday 8 November for a special celebration marking the launch of her three latest books: A Happy Cappy Christmas, Keith Goes Glam and Little Vampire Who Lost a Tooth. Elaine's three latest picture books are brought to life by two talented New Zealand illustrators: Minky Stapleton, whose expressive and humorous illustrations feature in A Happy Cappy Christmas and Keith Goes Glam, and award-winning illustrator Raymond McGrath, who lends his distinctive style to The Little Vampire Who Lost a Tooth! Both illustrators have collaborated with Elaine on previous books. Originally from London and now based in Wellington, Elaine has a lifelong love of books and storytelling. As a child, she created her own bedroom library, filling its shelves with books discovered at jumble sales and school fairs. At just ten years old, she told her grandmother she wanted to become a writer, a dream she eventually fulfilled more than three decades later. A recipient of the prestigious Storylines Joy Cowley Award, Elaine is known for her imaginative, humorous and heartwarming stories for young readers. Her previous publications include The Little Ghost Who Lost Her Boo!, which appeared on the New York Times bestseller list in 2020, The Little Witch Who Lost Her Broom! and Keith and the Kitten. When she's not creating stories, Elaine enjoys spending time with her family and her dog, Molly. This special book launch celebrates three delightful new additions to Elaine's collection, bringing together festive fun, glamorous adventures and a little spooky mischief. With both Halloween and Christmas themes, guests are encouraged to embrace the occasion and dress glamorously if they wish. Families, young readers and children's book enthusiasts are invited to meet Elaine, discover her latest stories and celebrate the joy of children's literature. All welcome.
