Taking place as part of the Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival, running from 8–18 October 2026, the Readers & Writers Festival brings together authors, experts and curious minds for a programme covering everything from survival and forensic science to Hawke’s Bay horse racing, history and the ever-popular world of romantasy. From Friday evening through to Sunday afternoon, enjoy 11 engaging sessions and two hands-on workshops. Whether you’re a passionate reader, an aspiring writer or simply love discovering something new, there’s plenty to explore. Wardini Books and Beattie & Forbes will be onsite throughout the weekend, with books available to purchase and opportunities to have your copies signed by participating authors. At its heart, the Hawke’s Bay Readers & Writers Festival is about bringing great writers and thinkers together with local readers – sparking conversations, discovering new perspectives and celebrating the stories that help us better understand ourselves and each other. The festival is made possible by the generous support of funders, supporters and the local community.
