Discover the art of storytelling with award-winning writer John Cranna, winner of the Commonwealth Writers Prize, in this inspiring six-week creative writing course at The Creative Hub in central Auckland. Perfect for aspiring writers and those looking to develop their skills, this welcoming course explores the techniques that bring great stories to life. Whether you enjoy journalling, poetry or short stories, or simply have a story waiting to be told, you'll learn how professional writers craft compelling, memorable work. John will guide you through creating powerful scenes, weaving them into captivating narratives, writing sizzling dialogue and mastering the art of showing rather than telling. You'll also explore the musicality of language, discover how to create memorable sentences and learn to avoid five common pitfalls faced by beginner writers. As your confidence grows, you'll begin to develop your own authentic writing voice - your kōrero. Each participant receives constructive feedback in a supportive, fun and social classroom environment, with the goal of completing a story of their own choosing by the end of the course. About the Tutor John Cranna is an award-winning author and experienced writing tutor who was voted Best Postgraduate Teacher by students at AUT University. Alongside winning the Commonwealth Writers Prize, he has edited New Zealand's largest-circulation magazine and served as consultant editor for Mana Māori magazine. His former students have gone on to publish internationally, including in New York and London. More Than Just a Writing Course The Creative Hub celebrates diversity and welcomes writers of all backgrounds and experience levels. Participants also receive a complimentary follow-up workshop several months after completing the course. The Creative Hub reports that 30 of its graduates have published novels or achieved success in national writing awards over the past three years. Graduates of this introductory course also receive a 10% discount on the 30-Week Fiction/Memoir Course, taught by some of New Zealand's leading authors.
