About this event

Join The Nelson Institute at Trafalgar Park Pavilion for a fascinating afternoon with author, entrepreneur and conservationist Peter Butler, as he shares stories from his newly published memoir, Plant Fiend. A lifelong lover of plants and a man determined to forge his own path, Peter has led a wonderfully unconventional life. From living in a remote rainforest in Golden Bay and becoming one of New Zealand's first certified organic kiwifruit growers to pioneering the cultivation of native medicinal plants, his journey has been filled with bold experiments, remarkable successes and spectacular setbacks. His adventures eventually led to the establishment of Forest Herbs Research and HealthPost, two successful New Zealand natural health businesses. Today, Peter continues his passion for conservation as Chair of the HealthPost Nature Trust, helping restore biodiversity around Wharariki and Farewell Spit. Published by Potton & Burton, Plant Fiend is an entertaining and refreshingly candid memoir about curiosity, resilience, risk-taking and the extraordinary influence of plants on one man's life. Whether you're interested in gardening, conservation, entrepreneurship or simply enjoy a good life story, this promises to be an engaging afternoon of storytelling and inspiration.
