Tamariki Book Festival

Young readers and budding writers are invited to spend an afternoon surrounded by books, creativity and plenty of imagination at the 2026 Tamariki Book Festival. The Arts Centre Great Hall will become a meeting place for 19 local authors and illustrators, with activities designed for children and teenagers aged 3–17. There will be plenty to explore, including book-themed games and challenges, craft activities, readings, creative writing and drawing, and opportunities to meet the authors themselves. Fancy dressing up? Costumes are encouraged, with spot prizes up for grabs. Children can also create their own magical wand with Wilda the Wand Witch and take part in other hands-on activities throughout the festival. With books ranging from picture books through to young adult titles, it's a chance to discover a new favourite, meet the person who wrote or illustrated it, and perhaps take a few books home. Entry to the festival is free. Books will be available to purchase at the event. Anyone buying three or more books will receive a free festival tote bag. Sensory Hour A quieter session will run from 3–4pm, providing a calmer environment for children and young people who prefer a less busy festival experience. Support the Festival Visitors can also purchase a Supporter ticket for $10 or more. Show your ticket when you arrive and receive a Tamariki Book Festival tote bag. Festival Workshops Additional Tamariki Book Festival workshops are being held alongside the main festival. These can be booked separately through Humanitix. Come along for an afternoon of books, creativity, costumes and meeting the people behind the stories.
