Join acclaimed New Zealand author Dame Fiona Kidman for a special five-day workshop exploring the art of life writing and memoir. Combining practical storytelling techniques with hands-on writing exercises, this immersive course offers an opportunity to transform personal memories, experiences and family histories into compelling narratives. Suitable for both beginners and experienced writers, the workshop welcomes anyone interested in preserving their stories for family and friends or developing a memoir for potential publication. Participants will explore the craft of storytelling, drawing on personal experiences, historical research and creative writing techniques to bring their stories to life. The programme features insights from four distinguished guest writers: Vincent O’Malley – Award-winning New Zealand historian and author, renowned for his research and writing on the New Zealand Wars and Māori–Pākehā relations. Mary McCallum – Award-winning novelist, poet and publisher, and a director of Mākaro Press and The Cuba Press, with extensive experience bringing New Zealand stories to publication. Harry Ricketts – Acclaimed poet, essayist, literary biographer and academic, whose work includes memoir, creative nonfiction and literary criticism. Tracy Farr – Award-winning novelist and creative writing tutor, known for weaving historical research, personal stories and imaginative storytelling into her fiction. This special workshop marks the final instalment of a much-loved writing course that has been running for approximately 15 years. With places strictly limited to just 16 participants, it offers an intimate and supportive environment in which to develop writing skills, exchange ideas and learn from some of Aotearoa's most accomplished literary voices.
