Join acclaimed historians Vincent O’Malley and Bruce Stirling at Unity Books Wellington for a special lunchtime event celebrating the publication of the newly updated edition of The Treaty of Waitangi Companion, published by Bridget Williams Books (BWB). Bringing together historical accounts, original documents and powerful imagery, this fascinating publication explores the complex and evolving relationship between Māori and Europeans, from their earliest encounters through to contemporary debates surrounding te Tiriti o Waitangi. Rather than presenting a single interpretation of history, O’Malley and Stirling invite readers to explore the voices and perspectives of those who experienced and shaped these events firsthand. From the signing of te Tiriti in 1840 to the political and constitutional discussions of today, the book offers an illuminating journey through the events, relationships and decisions that continue to influence Aotearoa New Zealand. This revised, full-colour edition, published in November 2026, features updated historical material and fresh perspectives on significant developments since the original book's release in 2010. Hear directly from the authors as they discuss the research, discoveries and historical perspectives behind this important publication. The lunchtime discussion will be followed by a book signing, offering attendees the opportunity to meet the authors and have their copies signed.
