About this event

Calling all creative kids aged 8–12! Join award-winning author and illustrator Laura Shallcrass for a fun, hands-on workshop where you’ll dream up, write and illustrate your very own zine - a small, handmade book that’s entirely your own creation. Zines have a long history of imaginative, independent storytelling, and there are no rules about what yours can be. Create a poem, a graphic novel, an illustrated picture book, an informative mini-guide or something completely unexpected. You can start from scratch or bring along a piece of writing you’d like to develop further. Laura will guide participants through shaping their ideas, creating supporting illustrations and learning how to fold and assemble their work into a multi-page zine to take home. With plenty of room to experiment, play with words and pictures, and let your imagination run wild, this workshop is perfect for young writers and artists of all experience levels. Laura Shallcrass is an award-winning artist, illustrator and author based in the hills near Tāhuna, Queenstown. Known for her intricately detailed illustrations, rich visual storytelling and imaginative blending of the natural and supernatural worlds, she brings a wealth of creative experience to this inspiring workshop. Come along, get creative and discover the joy of making a book that is uniquely yours! Suitable for: Children aged 8–12 Duration: 2 hours Workshop capacity: 20 participants Supported by: Mactodd Community Charitable Trust.
