Lamplight Books

Lamplight Books is an independent neighbourhood bookshop in the heart of Parnell, Auckland, born from an unexpected idea during the global pandemic. With plans suddenly turned upside down, its founders met for a drink between lockdowns, looked at the changed world around them and asked, “Why not open a store?” Retail was already in their blood, passed down through generations and shaped by summers of holiday work, Christmases spent wrapping presents and after-school hours in shops. Books, meanwhile, had always remained a constant. Today, Lamplight Books is a thoughtful and welcoming neighbourhood store filled with a beautifully curated collection of books. Its shelves range from works celebrating Te Ao Māori to literary classics and contemporary writing, with a particular focus on art, design and architecture that reflects the character of its Parnell neighbourhood. Independent, considered and created by people with a genuine love of books and bookselling, Lamplight Books is the kind of place designed for browsing, discovering something unexpected and leaving with a book you didn’t know you were looking for.
