About the bookshop
Tucked away beneath the shade of an ancient pōhutukawa tree, just a stone's throw from the sea in beautiful Raglan, Well Read Books is a charming, family-run second-hand bookshop filled with literary treasures waiting to be discovered. Owned and operated by mother-and-son team Noelene Manufui and Koebe Rudolph, the shop has been lovingly transformed from its former identity, In My Good Books, into a welcoming haven for book lovers. With its quirky character, relaxed atmosphere and wonderfully eclectic collection, it's the perfect place to lose track of time browsing the shelves. Well Read Books offers an impressive selection of quality pre-loved fiction and non-fiction, including contemporary novels, literary classics, New Zealand history, Māori and Pacific literature, art, poetry, biographies, nature, science fiction, fantasy and children's books. Collectors will also appreciate the selection of vintage, antiquarian, first-edition and harder-to-find titles. Alongside second-hand books, the shop stocks new works by local authors, as well as pre-loved puzzles, games, maps and artwork. Passionate about sustainability, lifelong learning and keeping printed books alive, the owners take pride in helping customers discover books that inspire, entertain and spark curiosity. Readers can also trade suitable pre-loved books for store credit, giving their old favourites a chance to find new homes. The shop is dog-friendly, and visitors may even be greeted by Pumpkin, the family's much-loved miniature dachshund! For those unable to visit in person, Well Read Books also has an online store, with new titles added regularly. Local delivery is available within a 10km radius, with shipping offered throughout New Zealand and internationally.
